Some common fruits and vegetables are poisonous when taken rawOne of the main benefits of slow juicing is that it helps your body to better absorb the nutrients from fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, the adverse is also true, and harmful effects will also be more apparent. Therefore, people suffering from iodine deficiency or thyroid problems should avoid juicing raw cruciferous vegetables (commonly used cruciferous vegetables used in slow juicing would be broccoli, cauliflower and even kale). Avoid being lazy and juicing apples whole, as the seeds need to be removed first. Apple seeds produce cyanide when digested. Sure, it takes 200 apple seeds to kill a 70kg man in one go, but would you still want to be taking them? Some parts of fruits and vegetables you would normally discard are actually very nutritiousAlternatively, you can go ahead and slow juice parts of the fruit/vegetable which you wouldn't normally eat. Not only is this normally more nutritious, but it's also more convenient as you don't have to bother with peeling. So go ahead and chuck in lemons, oranges, avocados, etc with the skin on. Most seeds (lemon, oranges, NOT apple) will also be harmless if not beneficial. Note that this will, of course, effect the taste of your juice. Try to use more dark, leafy vegetables and limit using fruitsUpon getting your first slow juicer, you'll likely Google "slow juicer recipes" and "healthy raw fruits and vegetables".
The recipes will give you boring things like "Carrot juice - slow juice 5 carrots and 1 lemon", "Cucumber juice - slow juicer 3 cucumbers and 1 lemon"; you get the idea. Meanwhile "healthy raw fruits and vegetables" will give you things you've never even heard of. The average guy has no idea what a collard, or kale, or chard even is, much less looks like in the grocery store. Don't worry too much when you're just starting out slow juicing.
